How To Keep Your Home Warm WITHOUT Breaking the Bank

1. Upgrade to Smart Thermostats

If you’re still relying on standard thermostats, you’re missing out BIG time. Modern smart thermostats let you control your home’s temperature from your phone or another connected device – wherever you are.

  • Set the temperature lower when you’re away and schedule it to warm up before you return.
  • Keep your thermostat at 72 degrees when you’re home and between 62 and 68 degrees when you’re out to lower heating costs.

2. Seal Drafty Windows and Doors

Did you know that houses lose a significant amount of energy through their doors and windows? To fix them:

  • Install weatherstripping around the edges of windows and doors to block cold air.
  • Use thick, thermal curtains to add an extra layer of insulation.

A quick test: Move your hand around window and door frames to feel for drafts. If you notice cold air, sealing those gaps can make a big difference!

3. Insulate Your Home Properly

The first time I heard of Peppy's Heating and Cooling was when the restoration company, making repairs due to a water heater leak, called them in to remove the furnace. I was immediately impressed with their professionalism and their systematic approach, including extensive picture documentation of the 3 zone wiring, before removing the furnace. Their professionalism was also evident when they returned to reinstall the HVAC system without any operational issues.

The next time I contacted Peppy's was when my former HVAC company, after a routine maintenance visit, said my furnace had a cracked heat exchanger which needed immediate attention. In addition they said my AC compressor motor showed signs of an oil leak and needed to be replaced soon.

I contacted Peppy's for a second opinion, since I had a previous positive experience. When the technician, Kevin, arrived I explained the issues that were identified. Kevin inspected the heat exchanger and did not find any evidence of a crack or abnormality. He also inspected the AC motor and said there was no issue with the motor and there was no evidence of an oil leak.

I have since hired Peppy's as my HVAC company. I had my first maintenance visit for AC and furnace this spring and had Kevin do the service. He indicated everything was in proper working condition and no issues were found.

The EASY BUTTON!
I just had a Mitsubishi Wall Mounted heating/AC unit installed earlier this week. I had several estimates and Rob -the Project Manager provided a clear yet comprehensive review of the equipement options. The quoted price was in line with the other estimates but what 'sealed the deal' was Peppy's ability to set up the electrician, schedule a timely installation (within days of the initial meeting), schedule the visit/sign off by the Ada County inspector and provide the certificate need for a tax rebate.

Rob was on-site for the split unit installation which was expertly done by the two man Peppy crew (and the electrician). The area was fully cleaned and the unit up and running within three hours. The entire experience was like hitting the 'EASY BUTTON'!

We’ve used Peppy’s for both a new furnace and AC. They were proactive in letting us know the old style Freon ACs were no longer being manufactured and now would be the time to buy a new one that is compatible with the coil in our furnace. Very professional. If you think you might have a worst case scenario, get a quote for that as well, not just the best case. Our situation might have been unique in that aspect and our hunch turned out correct and had to get another quote for that as well. They will make sure to correct anything amiss like any good business, just make sure you check. For those curious, our system seemed to have mold and pet issues before we moved in. The best case was just a cleaning (which we called around for), but then it progressed to replacing the ac and furnace (at which point we called Peppy and others). Peppy was the quickest getting back to us and answering our questions straightforward. We got a quote for the furnace and ac and a duct cleaning included. I suspected we might need new ducting, but didn't get a quote including that. After the cleaners (subcontracted) came through, it was evident it wasn't enough for us. After all this, we now have a system where we aren't worried about mold, or pet dander/urine/etc in from our vents affecting our children and probably ourselves. Just wished we had gotten worst case scenario quote to be prepared for budgeting that.

I ended up needing a new part plus cleaning and new filter and was afraid the bill was going to be a lot but it wasn't. The price for service was more then fair and very reasonable. We could not be more pleased with the service we received. Their team came to our newly 90 year old home a d instead of upselling us on new equipment they told us how we could extend the life of the current setup and improve the overall efficiency. And their technicians were just the best. They did some incredibly creative work to keep the work neatly hidden and they even removed some very old, no longer used, equipment that gave us much greater storage space in our utility space. The team at Peppy Heating and Cooling was fantastic. On initial consult Rob came out to the house. He reviewed and throughly explained all options detailing key differences and benefits of minisplit options. He provides expert advice on proper location for optimal performance and efficiency. The day of the install the technicians were very professional and courteous. Peppy coordinated an electrician to install a new 220 breaker and ran power to the unit. This occurred simultaneously as the minsplit was installed. The whole process went flawlessly. Furthermore Peppy arranged the electrical inspection from city. I'm very impressed with the level of customer I received. I would trust Peppy for another project and recommend them to friends and family. Brett and the entire team take the time to listen to what you need and they go out of their way to ensure that the objective is accomplished. I am so grateful that my builder decided on Peppy.

We just finished (about 18 months now) a custom modern farmhouse, constructed using LEED principles. We have 4,400 sq ft of open, expansive spaces. Brett and the team talked us into using the more efficient ductless system throughout the house and we couldn't be more happy with the final product. We have two Mitsubishi heat pumps and 9 total cassette heads, and one mini-ducted-air-handler, in our home. Our average monthly energy cost for our home (entire electric bill with a/c heat included) over the first year was about $200/month. That is amazingly efficient for 4,400 sq ft!!!

After getting the system installed and living with it for a year, Brett and the team, really went out of their way to help us find some new, cost-effective, technology allowing us to automate the system and integrate the controls into an online app that we can control with our phone anywhere. I feel like they are blazing some new trails with this aspect of ductless systems and they are doing a really great job making it work as easy as other traditional systems. The thing that really-really impressed me, is that the objective for Brett and the Peppy team was total customer satisfaction. They were respectful and equitable about the entire process and were not done until I was satisfied with this system, I was amazed at this level of customer service!

I would recommend Peppy hands down! 10 out of 10!!! They will be the only shop our family will call for any of our H-VAC needs!

I wish I had better pictures to do their work justice, but what is incredible is that I took these pictures when we were moving in, and the system is so well integrated that it is hard to tell it is there!

We have a whole house Trane filtering system and with the recent fires it just wasn’t able to clear the smoke. We called Preppy’s and the experience was great. Polite, prompt, professional and an all around easy experience. My technician arrived on time and gave me a 20 min heads up. I ended up not needing any service at all because it was a dirty filter all along 😆 but the unit has also been a little noise. The technician assured me it was still running very well but that I probably should start thinking about saving for a replacement one day. It was good advice and he was kind enough to change my filter for me. Of course I paid the house-call fee, but it was worth it to have a little diagnostic update on my AC Unit.

After meeting with several HVAC companies to install a split system in my home, I decided to go with Peppy and so glad I did! They were the ONLY company that suggested a ceiling unit rather than putting on the wall, I even asked the other companies and they said you don’t want that it’s too expensive. Come to find out, Peppy is really the only company that does it and from a sightly view it makes all the sense in the world and not much more in money. From the beginning with their sales rep Rob to their owner Brett and their installers Lance and (so sorry can’t remember the other gentleman’s name but super respectful and personable) everyone was extremely professional, knowledgeable and clean. I HIGHLY recommend Peppy for your HVAC needs they will be my go to HVAC company for years to come.

Peppy was great! Alex was polite, efficient, and did not pressure me into a hard upsell on anything. He fixed the problem quickly, was honest with his assessment, and stop my house from feeling like I was living in the middle of the Sahara desert! I will likely call on them again very soon, since I’m pretty sure I will need an entire new system. The fact that Alex didn't try to sell me on things I don’t need was much appreciated!

I had contacted 4 other heating and cooling companies. One didn’t show up. Three wanted me tocwait 2 weeks. I called Peppy. Alex Duda showed up on time the next morning, gave me 4 options for the repairs needed, and set me up on a twice a year maintenance. I had been trying to get the company who installed the $16,000 hvac system to do maintenance for 4 years and they never came. I highly recommend Peppy heating and air. You will find them very knowledgeable, efficient, courteous and fair.

My AC had stopped working. Juan talked to me about what he would trouble shoot and basic fees. When he had an idea of the possible issue, he talk to.me about next steps and potential costs. Clean is what it took. He talked to me about how to keep the issue from happening again. I'm very happy with the results. Juan's work. I will definitely call Peppy's first if I have heating or cooling issues. I highly recommend them!

I just spent the last two days with the Peppy Crew (Kevin, Luke, Josh, and Connor) as they tore all of the old, 1974 ductwork out of my attic and replaced it along with a new Trane furnace and outdoor AC unit. Great guys! Very courteous, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything would function smoothly after they left. Luke is still determined to find access to the duct that hasn't blown in the 20 years I've lived in my house, so more to come. Kevin knows his stuff and was super patient with me and all of my questions. Josh worked tirelessly in that nasty attic, like he was enjoying himself. Connor did a great job working in the rain to finish the AC and was a joy to have in my home. And, of course, Rob, who encouraged me to take the leap with a full update, but with no pressure. He was also very patient with me as I asked questions that ultimately brought me to my decision. I feel like I'm in a new house with all new clean ducts and equipment. Not to mention, I got a new chair....but, that's between me and Peppy. :-). Thank you all!

We had Alec come give us a bid on a new HVAC system, having been told after an annual check by another company that we needed to replace it Right Now. As it turns out, we likely have another couple of years left. Alec was very knowledge about his products. We appreciated he didn't give us a hard sell.
